At ESC Boston today Freescale announced that its Tower System would be the focal point of the Build Your Own
Embedded System track at 2010 ESC Silicon Valley.
Freescale's Tower System is a modular, reconfigurable development platform that allows designers to get to market faster with packaged evaluation boards, tools and runtime software. It is comprised of three types of modules: the Microcontroller Module (aka, controller module for 8-, 16- and 32-bit MCUs), Peripheral Module (featuring interchangeable peripheral boards—e.g., serial memory, graphical LCD and 802.11b Wi-Fi) and Elevator Module that connects and provides power to all boards. Each module in the Tower System is sold individually or as a complete kit.
Freescale System Engineer Michael Norman conducted a demo of the Tower System during the company's presentation at the show floor Theatre. Norman presented a new graphical LCD module featuring a 3.2-inch TFT display and resistive touch screen interface. He also said new processors for the Tower System were in the pipeline including a ColdFire V2 connectivity MCU with USB, Ethernet and CAN, an 8-bit S08 packaged MCU, and 32-bit Power Architecture MCUs.
Following the presentation Freescale gave away Tower Systems to five lucky ESC attendees in the audience.
