Performance Technologies rolls out an
ATCA (AdvancedTCA) application-ready platform replete with
AMC (AdvancedMC) functions and a 10-Gbit/s
Ethernet fabric. The
in toto offering, which includes a next-generation Ethernet switch, also has two AMC compute modules, and an ATCA 10-Gbit AMC carrier blade. These products are also available individually.
Performance Technologies's systems run Linux or Sun Solaris operating system software. You can use these configurations as a base platform for applications ranging from wireless, IMS (instant messaging service), and VoIP (voice-over-Internet Protocol).
Performance Technologies's ARP5210, for example, is a 12U-sized application-ready platform configuration with an aggregate backplane bandwidth of 0.45-Terabits/s (450-Gbits/s). It features redundant 10-Gbit Ethernet base/fabric switches, shelf management, and compute elements. It's all glued together with Linux software and middleware.
10-Gbit Switching
For its part, Performance Technologies's ATC6640 is a base/fabric 10-Gbit Ethernet switch that encompasses all of the capabilities defined in the PICMG 3.0/3.1 (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group) specs. The ATC6640 runs two completely independent switching cores, each with its own management processor. Like the ARP5210, it also gives you an aggregate bandwidth of 0.45-Terabits/s (vs. approximately 50-Gbits/s as defined in PICMG 2.16).
The ATC6640's dual switches each support IPv4 (Internet Protocol) and upcoming IPv6 switching and routing, and can sustain non-blocking, full wire-speed data rates.
Next up is the ATC8010 carrier. It's billed by Performance Tech as one of the first ATCA AMC carriers to exploit the 10-Gbit/s capabilities of PICMG 3.1. It's a compliment to the ATC6640 in applications that demand a distributed hierarchical, high-performance ATCA/AMC architecture.
The ATC8010 supports four standard single-width AMC modules, and can either aggregate or isolate dual connections. It can aggregates the collective bandwidth from all AMC bays, with up to redundant 10-Gbit ATCA interconnects. The ATC8010 carrier also has provisions for intra-bay connectivity for both SATA (serial ATA) and PCI-Express.
Two AMC Modules
The AMC111 is one of two AMC modules from Performance Tech. The AMC111 is a 64-bit SBC (single-board computer) module that features an Advanced Micro Devices Turion single-core 2-GHz processor.
The AMC111 is designed for high-performance embedded applications. It offers processing speed while addressing power and heat constraints for an AMC form-factor.
Next up is Performance Technologies's AMC131. It has many of the features as the AMC111, with a 32-bit processor with a 64-bit-wide memory bus. Also designed for embedded applications, the AMC131 features a Freescale Semiconductor MPC8641D dual-core 1-GHz processor. The AMC131 provides a scalable PowerPC architecture that delivers a flexible upgrade path from 32-bits to 64-bits.
Designed to run Linux, Solaris, and Windows applications, both the AMC111 and AMC131 can be used for high-end packet processing or multi-threaded software environments found in IMS, defense, wireless, and so-called softswitch applications.
Additional Useful Features
Both modules have lots of additional useful features, too, including Micro-SD ports, USB 2.0 (Universal Serial Bus) connectivity, and ECC-protected (error protected) DDR SODIMM (double data-rate small-outline dual in-line module) memories.
Both modules also provide 1-Gbit/s ports on their front panels. They also support both AMC.1 (PCI-Express) and AMC.2 (Ethernet) at the card edge. Either can be installed on the ATC8010 or ATC6640 and be used either as a packet or adjunct processor.
These ATCA and AMC products are available as high-availability platform configurations, or as individual blades.
