Research in Motion offers Blackberry reference design

Research in Motion (RIM) will be offering a reference design program, including hardware and software platforms, for companies who want to a make phones and other handheld devices with Blackberry wireless communication functionality.

The platform will feature an integrated processor from Analog Devices. The device will support both wireless communications and Java applications on a single chip.

Custom designed for RIM, the chip is based on Analog Device's SoftFone architecture, and specifications from RIM for optimized performance on GSM/GPRS wireless networks.

In addition to the platform, RIM will offer manufacturers services to expedite component integration, application development, and interoperability testing and certification.
